The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), has commenced with activities for her fifth edition holding between the 8th and 15th of November,with the announcement of her call for entry. Speaking from London via video conferencing with journalists in Lagos, Keith Shiri, Artistic Director for AFRIFF explained, that only films produced after January 1, 2014 and are yet to be officially screened to an African or Global audience will be eligible to compete in the five categories that AFRIFF champions.
“This year again, we are expecting to receive fantastic Feature Films, Documentaries, Animation, Short Films and Student Short Films, which is a category geared towards appreciating the efforts of upcoming and talented student film makers,” he said. He also stated that comprehensive information on the guidelines and procedures for submission could be found on their website while emphasizing that AFRIFF was committed to giving inclusive expression to African Cinema and would continuously be in the forefront of the drive for excellence.
AFRIFF is amongst the select film festivals worldwide that award monetary prizes for the best films in their competitive categories with the winning Feature film entry receiving $6,000, Documentary $5,000, Short film $3,000, Animation $3,000 and Student Short taking home $2,000.
Commendation is also received for Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, all under the Feature Film category while the winning entries for the eclectic Special Jury Award For Outstanding Film and Audience’ Choice Award could be films from any of the categories. AFRIFF’s Call for Entry closes on the 24th of July, 2015.
